What’s Going On- Week of September 6-9, 2011

It is the Fourth week of Kindergarten and the learning is really starting to pick up.  This week, I will start introducing sight words.  These are common words that appear frequently in texts and are sometimes hard to sound out.  It is important that your child be able to read these words quickly.  The first two sight words they are going to learn are “I” and “am.”  Our theme this week is Nursery Rhymes and I will be using these to teach them rhyming.  Our letter of the week is “C” and our color of the week is “Red.”

I have had some parents send in boxtops already!  Boxtops are icons on many food products that you can cut out and send to school.  This helps raise money for our school as well as prizes for your child depending on how many he or she brings in. Keep up the good work!

The first PTO meeting is September 8th.  There will be pizza at 5:30 and the meeting will follow.  There will be an open house after that.  I have sent home a small paper that you can fill out to reserve a pizza for your family.  If you are not a member of PTO, come anyway and sign up.  It is a five dollar membership and it is a way you can be involved in raising money for the school.  The meeting will explain about PTO- how they raise money and what they are going to spend it on.  Please plan to attend.

I am also starting to do a “Student of the Week.”  Each week, I will randomly draw a student’s name, that student will participate in special activities that week.  A more detailed explanation will be sent home when your child is the “Student of the Week.”

What’s Going on August 29- September 1

This week is going to be a very fun week!

Because we are focusing on the letter “B,” the students are allowed to bring a teddy bear (or other stuffed animal if they don’t have a bear) to school.  We will do several different activities with the bears.  I sent home a letter about this on Friday.

The new letters they are learning this week in FUNdations are “m” and “n.”  In Math, we are still working on counting and writing numbers.

Our word family this week is the “-am” family (ham, bam, jam, etc.)

Our theme this week is the 5 senses- seeing, hearing, smelling, tasting, and touching.  Students will get to explore the world around them using each of these senses.

As you can see, this will be a very busy week!

Welcome!

Welcome to the website for Miss Lisa’s Kindergarten class.  I am looking forward to a great year.  I will post information, dates, and pictures on this website so parents can see what is going on in the classroom.  There is a box on the right side of the screen that you can enter your email address to recieve new information I put on the site.  This will be a great reminder to check the site often.
