Dear Parents,
Welcome to 3rd Grade! I am very excited to be your child’s teacher. I want this to be a successful year for you and your child as we travel this school year together. You play a major role in every aspect of your child’s development. Parent communication is essential for the success of your child. Please take the time to read the following helpful information.

Breakfast:
The cafeteria opens for breakfast at 7:00 a.m. If your child plans to eat breakfast here at school, please have them here early enough to eat and make it to the classroom at 7:30. This will ensure that he/she will have plenty of time to complete their morning work and have time to ask for help if needed. The price for students to eat breakfast is $1.00 per day.

Lunch:
Our class will each lunch from 12:06 p.m.- 12:34 p.m. We use a computer system in the cafeteria. Each child has his/her own lunch card with a barcode and 5-digit number. Your child will need to memorize their number in order to sign in to AR and other programs on the computer. A lunch menu will not be sent home with your child each month unless you do not have access to the Internet. If you need me to send one home with your child, please let me know. Please send all lunch money in a labeled envelope/Ziploc. Your child will be responsible for getting this to me in the mornings. The price for students is $1.55 per day. Parents are welcome to join us for lunch. The cost of an adult lunch is $3.00.

Agenda Books:
Please purchase your child an agenda book. We will use this as a form of communication between home and school. Your child will be responsible for writing in their agenda book on a daily basis and after each class period. I will also attach a binder clip to their agenda book. I will use this clip to attach notes home, information from the office and graded papers. Please do not remove this binder clip as it will also help your child stay organized and on track from week to week. Graded papers will stay at home once they are sent home. However, I will need a parent signature on the slip attached to the graded papers. This slip will need to be returned to school so I know that you have seen and looked over your child’s work.

Recess:
Our class will participate in outside play every day from 1:30-1:50, weather permitting. We also go to the gym on Friday. Please make sure your child is dressed appropriately. Tennis shoes are encouraged for safety. Please no flip-flops.

Homework:
Please check your child’s agenda book every day in case he/she has homework. When homework is given, we expect it to be completed by the child and turned in the next day to the appropriate teacher. If a child is missing their homework they may have to partake in study hall and miss their afternoon recess in order to get the assignment completed.

Restrooms:
I do not always take a class restroom break. However, students are free to go to the restroom when they need to. I only ask that they do not leave the classroom during instruction time unless an emergency. If your child needs to go to the restroom frequently, please send a note in to me so that I know he/she does not just want to play around.

Dismissal:
Dismissal is at 2:50. Third grade will dismiss at the back of the school. If your child has a younger sibling who dismisses out front, please send in a note explaining the situation and your child will be allowed to dismiss out front. VERY IMPORTANT: When you need for your child’s dismissal to change, please send a note in to me. If I do not have a note from you or a call from our office informing me of your child’s transportation change, they must go home the way we have listed. We have had several situations of student’s thinking they are to walk home or are a car rider and then they miss the bus. I MUST have a note or a phone call letting me know these changes.

Attendance:
Your child’s regular and prompt attendance at school is crucial to his/her success. This is very important! Most of our learning activities are group oriented and involve interaction of classmates, the teacher, and the use of technology. Therefore, it is sometimes impossible to make up the work at home and receive the same instruction. Please view school as a priority and see to it that your child attends everyday except in cases of illness or an emergency. The office required a signed note for an excused absence. You must have the note in within three days of the child’s absence. Your child will need to turn the note in to me. I will get the information to the office.

Communication:
Please send all notes or communication in your child’s agenda book. You may right it in the appropriate day or attach a letter to me using the binder clip.

Birthdays:
If your child would like to celebrate their birthday with their classmates, we will celebrate it at lunch. Please send in something like cupcakes, cookies, etc. and we will pass them out during lunch. You may send in breakfast foods, which they can enjoy from 7:30-8:00. Let me know if you have any questions.

Math & Language Arts:
We will be switching classes for math and language arts. Your child may or may not have me as their teacher for either subject. I will inform both you and your child of their teacher as soon as I know.

Science & Social Studies:
These subjects will be completed in my class. I use lots of hands on activities, group projects, and technology when teaching these subjects. Study guides will be sent home at the beginning of each week to help you and your child prepare for their test at the end of the week.
